About
I’m Nur Khabir, a Web Designer based in Philadelphia, PA. Let’s get the a few things out of the way…
- I’m not skinny – I’m sleek.
- I love playing basketball. I love watching football.
- I don’t play football – cause I’m sleek.
- I love what I do. That also makes me cool. And fortunate.
I design stuff – that makes me cool.
I’ve been into design since I was around 14. As the only boy with three sisters, I wasn’t going to win the argument over what to watch on TV very often, so the computer and I became very close friends. Designing websites allowed me integrate design with a lot of the programming experience I was gaining in school. Lately my focus has shifted to blog templating and overall interface design – specifically video games. The general pattern in my life is take the plethora of interests I have and combine that into my love of design and video games have become the latest extension of that, but I’ll touch on that subject in a full post down the line.
I started college as an computer engineering major, but over time discovered it’s not what I wanted to do for the rest my life and decided to go with what I loved doing – designing stuff. I graduated from the Art Institute of Philadelphia with a BS in Interactive Media Design and have been thoroughly enjoying my career.
In my humble opinion, the key to being a great designer is checking your ego at the door and learning from those around you. I learned a ton in school from friends and I don’t even think they realize it fully.
Currently Learning
I’m a strong believer that there’s always something to learn so I’m always out to add something else to my knowledge base. I’m currently studying blog templating and video game interface design, which is surprisingly deep.
I’m also experimenting in working with color palettes that aren’t in my comfort zone and aren’t part of the current web design trends. It’s been… interesting. I’ll make a note to write a post about this.
On top of that, I’m also currently going through a SharePoint training class.
